THEY all carry notable surnames.
And all three want to invade show business. Gian Sotto is the only
son of Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa. Alfonso Martinez has Albert
Martinez and Liezl Sumilang for parents and the frank and feisty
Amalia Fuentes for a grandmother. Michael Manotoc is the son of
Tommy Manotoc and Imee Marcos.
Will Michael Manotoc follow the
footsteps of his brother Borgy, who lately has been involved in a
lot of scandals and controversies at the Embassy Club? Michael came
back to the Philippines after graduating in political science at the
New York University. “I like to explore possibilities. I’ve
always wanted to act. My mom acted for sometime, too. I guess I got
the passion from her. And whether I’m going to ‘use’ show
business as springboard to fuel my passion in politics someday, I
wouldn’t know, but I’m always open,” he says, very
straightforwardly.
Giancarlo Sotto is a vocalist of
a band and plays the guitar, too. We heard him sing a few lines and
he definitely sings better than his sister Ciara, who is a Sony-BMG
artist. He strikes us as a very sensible and realistic young man who
knows what he wants. “I do not have grand illusions to be a
crooner or a crush ng bayan, I simply wants to sing and act and
hopefully be a good contravida. I think contravidas have a longer
life span in this business, especially if you’re really
credible.”
Although he just turned 20,
Alfonso Martinez looks like he’s still in that awkward
‘no-longer-a-boy-not-yet-a-man’ phase of his life. Alfonso tried
to be independent while he lived alone in the States selling
appliances but realized that life is much better in the Philippines
where he will be treated as showbiz royalty.
Gian, Alfonso and Michael signed
up with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. By doing so, they join hundreds of
other showbiz veterans and newcomers who have entrusted their
careers to the giant network, hoping to at least be included in a
show or two. Let’s all wait and see who among these three will the
lords of the network favor.
