SAN SEBASTIAN and Lyceum collide today for the first
championship berth even as University of Santo Tomas tries to stay
in the hunt for the No. 1 spot against La Salle in the Shakey’s
V-League at The Arena in San Juan.
In a fitting windup to a tightly
contested semifinal round, three teams—SSC, Lyceum and UST—are
fighting it out for the top berth with the fourth—La
Salle—assured itself of a playoff for the second final seat via
the league’s 3-of-4 incentive scheme.
That makes today’s twinbill a
crucial or a wild one with a double playoff for the other
championship slot sure to take place although pairings would depend
on the results, which would determine the ranking of the teams.
San Sebastian tangles with Lyceum
at 2 p.m. while La Salle and UST mix it up at 4 p.m.
Based on the latest game point
ratio standing, SSC leads with 1.139 followed by UST 1.126 and
Lyceum 1.003.
If this holds, victories by San
Sebastian and UST will force a tie for first with the SSC spikers
clinching the No. 1 spot by virtue of a superior tiebreak score via
the game points ratio.
Lyceum and La Salle will then
clash in the first playoff for the right to face UST for the second
final berth in another sudden death.
If Lyceum and UST prevail, UST
will get the No. 1 spot with a better game points ratio with SSC
clashing with La Salle with the winner disputing the No. 2 berth
with Lyceum.
Victories by San Sebastian and La
Salle will give the No. 1 spot to SSC and Lyceum and La Salle fight
for the right to face UST for the second final berth.
If Lyceum and La Salle win,
Lyceum will clinch the No. 1 berth and UST and La Salle duel for the
right to face SSC for the second seat.
Meanwhile, the SSC-Lyceum duel
will be telecast on NBN-4 tomorrow from 2 p.m. while the UST-La
Salle clash will be aired on Thursday. Games are also replayed over
Viva Prime from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
