Three suspected carjackers were killed in a gunbattle
with police near White Plains subdivision in Quezon City early
Monday.
Elements of Task Force Limbas
said the suspects fired at their vehicle after refusing to stop
their Hyundai Starex van (license plate XGY-494) at a checkpoint
outside the subdivision. A gunbattle ensued, which left all three
suspects dead.
Police said the van’s license
plates were stolen from a Toyota Corolla. They said the suspects
allegedly posed as policemen before seizing cars from their victims.
Authorities have yet to determine
if the carjackers were connected to a criminal syndicate operating
in Fairview.
Later Monday, a carjacker was
caught red-handed while trying to steal a luxury vehicle in the car
park of Trinoma Mall on EDSA in Quezon City.
Police arrested the suspect,
Rolly Brugsay, after he boarded a Mitsubishi Pajero of Felipe Tan.
A security guard said he alerted
the police after he spotted Brugsay and two other suspects prowling
in the car park.
Police are still looking for
Brugsay’s two companions.
