CEBU CITY: The high-school public students of Cebu
can now enhance their English skills using mobile-learning centers.
This is a project of Bigfoot
Asia-Pacific Foundation Inc., Department of Education (DepEd)-Cebu
province division and the officials of the local government units of
Dumanjug and Daanbantayan.
A memorandum of agreement was
signed recently for the pilot implementation of the mobile-learning
centers in Daanbantayan and Dumanjug.
Mayor Cesar Baricuatro,
Vice-Mayor Raul Jumao-as, Bigfoot APF president Lilu Alino, program
officer Marilou Go and DepEd Cebu personnel attended the signing of
the agreement.
Under the agreement, Bigfoot
Asia Pacific Foundation, through chief executive officer Joseph
Mercado, will provide 10 computer units complete with server and
software and two air-condition units inside the mobile- learning
centers as well as the training of the teachers.
The LGU officials will provide
the electricity, the security of the facilities and the transport of
the van from one secondary school to another.
The DepEd will handle the English
literacy of the students.
The student beneficiaries can
avail of the center one hour a day for three days a week with the
tutelage of trained professional teachers, whose performance will be
monitored by Bigfoot and DepEd supervisors.
Also included in the project is
the Cleverlearn course, an interactive, self-directed and
self-corrective program designed to improve the grammar structure
and the vocabulary of the students in the English language.
The mobile-learning centers would
be transported to another school after the students show improvement
in their English skills.
