The prevention of graft and
corruption has been included in the education curriculum with the
release of new teaching modules that will instill the values of
honesty and integrity in students.
The Department of Education and
the Office of the Ombudsman launched the program with the support of
the European Commission and the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID).
“As we look at ways to solve
the many social woes that plague our country, we recognize the
important role of education in transforming our students to become
true assets instead of liabilities in our quest for nation
building,” said Education Secretary Jesli Lapus at the launching
of the new Graft and Corruption Prevention Education Teaching
Exemplars at the P. Bernardo Elementary School in Quezon City.
The new edition consists of 52
teaching modules inspire students on professionalism and simple
living with the aim of building an honest, transparent and
accountable government.
Lapus said 203,113 copies of the
modules will be distributed to 44,412 elementary and secondary
schools nationwide.
“Through these Teaching
Exemplars, we hope to equip our teachers with the competencies they
require to effectively inculcate in our young the proper values that
will enable them to become truly responsible citizens,” he said.
