Barcarse, Dysangco rule Milo elims

TARLAC CITY: Abraham Barcarse clocked 1:08:07 to retain the men’s division title in the fourth leg of the Milo Marathon here on February 25.

Jujet de Asis, a protégé of 1992 Milo marathon champion Rey Antoque, came in second in 1:10:53 followed by Bowen Montecillo (1:12:56).

Analiza Dysangco won the women’s division in 1:32:45 while Anna Liza Vargas (1:42:08) and Ederlita Sanchez (1:45:46) placed second and third.

“Umpisa pa lang, umigkas na ako hanggang sa finish line” said the 22-year-old son of a farmer from Aparri, Cagayan, who also improved his time of 1:10:00 last year.  The top three finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions all advanced to the national finals offering P75,000 to the champion.

Barcarse did not compete in the finals last year due to left knee injury while competing in the UAAP track and field running for Far Eastern University. The race was won by Julius Sermona of Negros Occidental.

“Ngayon lang ako tatakbo sa finals. Paghahandaan ko ito dahil mabigat ang labanan dito. Lahat ng magagaling sa bansa kasali,” said Barcarse, a graduating education student from FEU.

Mayor Aro Mendoza fired the starting gun while Milo Events Executive Pat Goc-Ong handed out the cash prizes and trophies to all the winners in the race participated in by 10,000 runners and organized by City Tarlac City Sports Arnold Rodriguez in partnership with Bayview Park Hotel and adidas.

Race director Rudy Biscocho announced that the fifth leg will be held in June.
