SMB import exceeds height limit

KELLY Whitney, San Miguel’s import for the Talk ’N Text-PBA Fiesta Conference, was ruled ineligible to play for the league’s season-ending tournament after he was measured to be over the required height limit Tuesday.

The 200-lbs forward from Chicago measured 6'-6 7/16'’ slightly over the allowable 6-6 ceiling for imports this conference.

“Mr. Whitney failed to meet the height requirement of 6-6 and so he is ineligible to play for the Fiesta Conference,” said PBA technical department chief Perry Martinez, who supervised the proceeding.

San Miguel acting coach Biboy Ravanes said Whitney’s replacement will be coming as soon as possible but refused to provide any details about him.

The Beermen open its campaign on Friday against defending champion Red Bull Barakos.

Ravanes said Vidal Messiah an American who reportedly played for the Canadian national team might play as a substitute import on Friday. Messiah has been scheduled for measurement tomorrow morning.

Besides Whitney, Rosell Ellis of Alaska and Rod Nealy of Ginebra also were measured yesterday. Ellis stood at 6'-4 3/4" while Nealy was measured 6'-4 7/8.”
