Avaya Inc., a global leader in business
communications applications, software and services, today announced
the Avaya one-X Portal, a Web-based interface that enables employees
to easily and securely access Avaya telephony, messaging, mobility
and conferencing applications. The Avaya one-X Portal improves
productivity, user control and business continuity by consolidating
communications applications and directories into a single user
interface that can be accessed and managed from any PC or MAC.
The Avaya one-X Portal provides employees with a rich user
experience on any computer. The Portal also simplifies access to
advanced communications that can improve responsiveness and
collaboration while reducing costs to the business. Communications
tasks can be initiated and managed using familiar desktop methods,
including:
o click-to-call on names or numbers from call logs or
integrated directories;
o manage and control conference calls using the on-screen
display panel;
o click on a name to add a participant to a conference call;
o see, sort, play and record voicemail messages in any order.
The Avaya one-X Portal increases the control users have over their
communications by enabling them to define with whom they will
interact in real time. Workers can set preferences, such as Find
Me/Follow Me/Hide Me that allow selective routing of calls and
contacts based on the employee's availability. Mobility features
such as Extension-to-Cellular, which allows calls sent to the
business extension to simultaneously ring the cell phone, can easily
be enabled, configured and disabled.
"The Avaya one-X Portal is a highly cost-effective unified
communications solution that simplifies advanced communications for
workers while easing management," said Eileen Rudden, vice
president and general manager, Unified Communications, Avaya.
"The Portal eliminates the need to deploy multiple
communications applications on users' desktops and increases their
ability to access all their business communications
capabilities from any Internet-connected computer.
Avaya one-X Portal also supports business continuity planning, since
employees can use personal or public computers over a standard HTTP
connection to access their Avaya business communications in the
event they are unable to get to their workplace due to extreme
weather conditions, a facility being unavailable or other unforeseen
incidents. The one-X Portal offers options that allow the
voice path to be directed to a computer, office, mobile, home or
other remote phone to provide most appropriate or optimal voice
quality, while signaling is handled through the application.
"In the increasingly virtual workplace, users need to know that
co-workers, clients and partners can reach them anytime, anywhere.
At the same time, IT is faced with the challenge of decreasing costs
and management complexity," says Melanie Turek, Principal
Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Simple unified
communications that integrate presence, conferencing and
collaboration are critical to business success--and employees must
have access to those applications from anywhere, whenever they need
them."
For IT departments, the Avaya one-X Portal eases the technical
challenges associated with enabling employees to work effectively
from anywhere and the rollout of advanced communication tools to
large numbers of employees. The quick and easy, centralized
server-based Web implementation, administration and management
eliminates the need to deploy communications applications on user
desktops. Since the one-X Portal uses both corporate VPN and
authentication systems, communications are secure, regardless of
whether a user is on a company-issued or a public computer.
