Philippines plans to put up a third gateway in the country in the
second quarter of the year.
“We [are]
definitely exploring the possibility to set up a gateway either in
[a] freeport or economic zone, possibly sometimes in the second
quarter,” Larry Llamzon, the company’s country manager told
reporters.
He said the
new gateway may be located in the Subic-Clark-Bataan growth triangle
in Central Luzon.
“We are
currently discussing with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority for
possible expansion,” he added.
DHL now
operates two gateways—one in Metro Manila where 90 percent of its
shipments are coursed, and another one in Metro Cebu.
A gateway
serves as the facility for shipping goods in and out of the country.
Besides
possible expansion, the company is planning to expand its retail
outlets, Llamzon said.
“At least 20
more retail outlets will be opened for the year 2007,” he said,
noting that it will be located in the Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal
and Quezon area.
Last year, DHL
opened 10 stores nationwide. In 2005, more than 1.7 million
shipments were made with close to 30 million kilos.
DHL operates
strategically located service centers in various parts of the
country to decentralize operations and offer faster and shorter
delivery times. It is 100-percent owned by Deutshe Post World
Net.
