THE Philippines’ services sector
has the potential to be a global leader in knowledge process
outsourcing (KPO), the Department of Trade and Industry said Friday.
Aside from
being a business process outsourcing (BPO) hub, the country has also
been the choice for accountants, finance experts, and research and
development companies, the DTI said.
David
Kinnear, president of DDC HRO a leading international leader in
onshore-offshore outsourcing, and head of the BPO Council, said
industry players have seen a big shift in the marketplace in terms
of awareness of the Philippines as a preferred BPO destination.
“We
have seen an overwhelming increase on the understanding of the
Philippines’ potential for higher value BPO, KPO, and skills-based
BPO work products, such as F&A (finance and accounting),” he
said.
He
said that the growth in the global BPO sector and a move to global
and multi-shore deployment is driving fresh and rapid growth for the
Philippines and it’s Southeast Asian neighbors.
Russ Metcalf,
managing director of NeoIT, a BPO multi-company said that the rapid
growth of the industry in the Philippines is a result of highly
successful exploration by US business in the past five years.
“The
effectiveness of the Philippine workforce in handling customer
service, HR, IT services and other functions show that supporting US
business needs from this country is the right thing to do,” he
said.
