Daily blink magic

IT has been estimated in 2004 that about 125 million people use contact lenses worldwide, including 28 to 38 million in the United States and 13 million in Japan. The types of lenses used and prescribed vary markedly between countries.

According to Tim Grant of CIBA Vision, a recent study shows that contact lens users already increased to 1.6 billion worldwide and estimated to increase by 2.5 billion in 2020.

According to a study, people choose to wear this corrective, cosmetic or therapeutic lens for various reasons. Many consider their appearance to be more attractive with contact lenses than with glasses. Others believe that contact lenses are less affected by wet weather, do not steam up and provide wider field of vision and more suitable for a number of sporting activities.

But now contact lens wearers have more reasons to smile about. For the first time, they can experience all-day comfort every day with the launching of CIBA Vision’s new category of ‘sustained release’ lenses called Focus Dailies with Aqua Release.

According to Jeanette Romualdez, CIBA Visions’s professional services consultant in South East Asian Region, this invention is the first daily disposable contact lens to offer a unique breakthrough—the blink-activated technology with built-in moisturizer.

With each blink, the built-in moisturizer is gradually released from the lens into the tear film to keep your eyes moisturized or lubricated. As such, it relieves your eyes from dryness and provides you all-day comfort.

Considered to be the No. 1 disposable contact lens in Europe and the United States, Focus Dailies with Aqua Release holds the record of being the only contact lens brand to gain a US FDA approval to claim “all-day comfort” on its packaging.

It also boasts of using Visitint, a handling tint that makes it easier to insert and remove the lens, providing more convenience to the contact lens wearer.

Now available in the Philippines at all leading optical outlets, its recommended retail price is P1,200 for a box of 30 pieces. It is also available in packs of 5 pieces.

Here’s another treat. You can cool your feet with a fancy pair of summer flip flops which you get absolutely free when you buy two packs of Focus Dailies Aqua Release, Precision UV or 02Optix from February 15 to May 15, 2007. --Lea Manto-Beltran
