MARCH is fire
prevention month. And studies have shown that most fires start from
the kitchen.
The kitchen is
one of the most often used area in the house and for that reason
most of the common hazards at home can be found there like kitchen
appliances, utensils, knifes, matches, chemicals like cooking oil,
soaps and other combustible materials that can be potentially
dangerous. Most of the common types of accidents in a kitchen
involve fire or heat that can result in severe burns. Here are some
reminders about safety in the kitchen:
• Don’t
leave cooking unattended.
• Avoid
having curtains near your oven or range. They are combustible and
can catch fire fastest.
• Don’t
have kitchen utensils and other sharp objects within children’s
reach. Children are the most common victims of poisoning.
• Avoid
wearing loose clothing when cooking. Dangling loose sleeves can go
up in flames instantly, causing serious burns.
• Don’t
leave kitchen surfaces and floors wet. Damp surfaces make excellent
ground for germs. Not to mention a lot of people have sustained
severe injuries because they slipped.
• Always
have a fire extinguisher at home
