Singing firefighters

TO celebrate the fire prevention month, a group of firefighters will leave their water hoses and uniforms for a few hours to serenade the public in a special Concert at the Park performance tomorrow, March 11 at 5 p.m.

The Firefly Band, composed of Chief Inspector Leonardo I. Sabellina Jr., (band leader/vocalist/guitarist), FO2 Richard Erickson Malamug (lead guitarist/vocalist), FO1 Rhoderick Herrera,(bassist) and volunteers Nowie Favila (drummer), will take center stage to share their gift of voice and to remind the public about the fire prevention campaign.

The name Firefly is a shorter term for this line: Firefighters forever love you. The band had its first performance on December 22, 2000, during the Christmas Party of the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Since then, the band has been promoting its fire prevention programs through its various concerts nationwide. Included in the band’s repertoire are songs by the Beatles, Eagles, America, Police and local bands such as Yano, Asin and Juan de la Cruz. Its second album, aptly titled “Sunog,” was released last year, under Ivory Records. The band is working on its third album, under Awiting Pinoy Records is scheduled for release this year.

Concert at the Park is a regular public-service project of the National Parks Development Committee, under Executive Director Carlito A. Fajardo, and the National Broadcasting Network. It is aired on NBN Channel 4.
