AMAZING GRACE
By Dr. Grace Carole
P. Beltran
Hair matters

THE statement that the brain often sees physical shorthand to the soul is not an overstatement. In fact, carefully shaped and styled hair is often associated with trustworthiness, sincerity, or influence. It may also simply project someone to be with a significant cultural or political position.

On the contrary hair worn in a tangled and matted style may symbolize a negative image, that of, an insincere, distrustful person or someone with a bad reputation. What I mean is that we often subconsciously judge a person only by what we see: hair, face, fashion accents, clothes, skin color, nails etc. . . .

Although hair loss will not make us physically ill, hair remains our crowning glory. Loss of hair on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelash, genitalia, chest and other parts of the body will always have emotional and psychological consequences. Faced with this loss, patients often find themselves making a decision: Should hair loss be accepted as a fact of life or is hair restoration an option?

As Western and Asian societies become more industrialized and more technologically advanced, they also become more fashion conscious. For them having a full head of a hair becomes a great concern.

Dermatologists, enhancement doctors and aesthetic surgeons are also more aware today of the necessity to take a patient’s hair loss seriously. That is why they have developed ways to replace loss hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, sideburns, forehead, etc. Nowadays, hair transplant and replenishment are being done almost anywhere on the skin, wherever the patient may wish to transplant hairs.

For the eyebrows, hair transplant is a simple procedure. Although this is quite tedious for the cosmetic surgeon, it is worth doing, due to its excellent aesthetic results. For those whose eyelashes have disappeared due to injury or disease, these can be replaced too using scalp hairs, without an elaborate or high-tech instrument, but just a simple curve, holed needle. Those with thinning hair, and who wish to have more hairs in those two areas can now have bushy eyebrows and thick, long lashes through transplants. Patients whose sideburns have been obliterated or inadvertently displaced by facelift procedures, can be restored too, just the way they want it to be. Even chest hair can now be added

Technology and science are truly amazing. All we need are competent professionals to execute these procedures and voila, we can get instant hair!
