DETAINED mutineer and senatorial
candidate, Antonio Trillanes IV, has assailed a Makati City court
for denying his request for media interviews.
In a statement, Trillanes, who is
running under the opposition senatorial slate, said that he was
“greatly” disappointed over the court’s rejection of his
petition.
“I will not deny that I am
greatly disappointed by the court’s ruling. I believed with great
faith that my motion was fair and reasonable,” Trillanes said in a
statement sent through e-mail.
But he was quick to say that
despite the rejection he still believes in the judicial process.
“I refuse to believe that this
is part of a systematic plan to deny me the fair and reasonable
opportunity to wage a decent senatorial campaign that is why I have
asked my lawyer to file the appropriate motion,” Trillanes said.
“I am trying hard to believe in
the system and I am hoping that the Honorable Court has the moral
courage, fortitude and the independence to uphold my rights and
grant my humble motion,” he said.
Trillanes, one of the hard-core
leaders of the Magdaló group, which staged the short-lived Oakwood
mutiny in July 2003, is locked up at the Marine headquarters in Fort
Bonifacio, Taguig City.
“I am simply asking that
reporters and media practitioners who wish to interview to me be
allowed to visit me at the Marine Brig . . . I know my place and I
will never ask for anything which would unreasonable,” said
Trillanes.
He said he sees no reason for the
court to be afraid to allow him be given interviews to journalists.
