The authorities’ sudden obsession to arrest Satur Ocampo reeks of political scheming. How else explain the rush to serve a warrant for a crime he allegedly committed more than 20 years ago, or the insidious police raid on the militant lawmaker’s house last week.

Ocampo’s colleagues in Bayan Muna strongly suspect that the intention, far from the serving of justice, is to short circuit the party-list group’s campaign for the May elections.
