REIGNING national champion Jay Bayron bounced back
with a three-under par 69 but still stood seven strokes off
Queensland’s Anderw Dodt in the individual competition halfway
through the Riversdale Cup at the Riversdale Golf Club in Melbourne
Saturday.
Bayron now has a 143 aggregate,
gaining some grounds after a shaky opening two-over 74 although he
remained too far behind Dodt, who followed up his opening 67 with a
69 for an eight-under 136 total, the same output by New South
Wales’ Stewart Tim, who sizzled with a 66.
But while Bayron finally settled
down with his game on the tough, challenging layout, Michael Bibat
hardly recovered from a 74 as he matched par 72.
That gave Team RP a 289 haul as
it dropped 13 strokes off Queensland in team competition of the
four-day championship, Australia’s premier 72-hole amateur event.
Queensland threatened to pull away with a 276 for a four-stroke lead
over North South Wales (280).
Anthony Fernando, who with Miko
Alejandro composed the other ICTSI-backed RP squad in the fold, also
fired a three-under 69 while Alejandro shot a 71 as they atoned for
a so-so 157 output Friday with a solid 140 for a 297.
