FORMER President Fidel V. Ramos will be the guest of
honor and speaker during the 7th Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Boxing
Awards Night on March 25 at the grand ballroom of the Elorde Sports
Center in Sucat Road, Parañaque.
“I’m delighted to participate
in this year’s Banquet of Champions and join boxing afficionados
in honoring the country’s top Filipino boxers whose exploits in
the international scene have made our country and people proud,”
said Ramos in his message to the Elorde Foundation.
Johnny Elorde, the son of Flash
who is overseeing the awards ceremony together with wife Liza, said
President Ramos has confirmed his attendance in the awards ceremony
where Manny Pacquiao will be honored as Best Boxer of the Year for
the sixth straight year.
Meanwhile, the awards organizing
committee announced that the City Government of Parañaque headed by
Mayor Florencio Bernabe has declared a “Boxing Week” to
commemorate the 72nd birthday of Flash Elorde on March 25.
To open the celebration is the
“Box and Run” where champion boxers, awardees and guests will
join in 5K and 2.5K run to be held on March 18 to be followed by
several boxing clinics and a big Dinner Boxing event featuring a
double championship fight on March 23.
