Quezon, Tagaytay Springs win


LUCENA CITY: Host Quezon Villa Anita and Tagaytay Springs Cooking Oil struck the first “knockout” blows as the 2007 National Basketball Con-ference kicked off Saturday at the Quezon Convention Center here.

Ex-pro Bryan Gahol and Paolo Malonzo sparkled in the closing minutes as Villa Anita downed MP Pacman Gensan, 71-64, in the opening game.

The Cooking Oil Masters of NBC President Nathaniel “Tac” Padilla and Tagaytay Bambol Tolentino then banked on the tough backcourt duo of Ryan Regalado and Nino Marquez to prevail over Pagadian Explorers, 76-73, in the other game.

Action in the tournament supported by Sulpicio Lines, Yahoo Philippines, Molten, Nature’s Spring, Nike, Spring Cooking Oil, Basketball TV and Viva Prime Channel resumes with a double-header today at the Tolentino Sports Center in Tagaytay.

It will be Quezon against Pagadian at 2 p.m. and Tagaytay Springs against MP Pacman Gensan at 4 p.m.
