They say that
name recall is very important in the election. This early, however,
some campaigners of Team Unity are committing boo-boos in
introducing their senatorial candidates. Former senator Vicente
Sotto 3rd is very popular, but one emcee has introduced him as Vic
Sotto, instead of Tito.
Zambales Gov.
Vicente Magsaysay was once introduced as Jun Magsaysay, the common
name of his cousin, Ramon Magsaysay Jr.
At least, they
had never experienced what a candidate in Bulacan had undergone. The
emcee was profuse with his praises of the qualifications and
achievements of the candidate whose name, he did not mention until
the end. After extolling the candidate, the emcee boomed: “Our
candidate, Rogaciano Mercado!” The audience suddenly fell silent
while the candidate’s jaw tightened. Mercado was the opponent of
the candidate on stage. I don’t know what happened to the emcee
later, but Mercado scored a landslide victory.
Reelectionist
Sen. Ralph Recto surprised passengers of the Supercat ferry from
Cebu City to Tagbilaran City by doing the demonstrations on the
safety features of the sea vessel. Recto acted like a veteran ship
attendant as he demonstrated the proper use of life vests and
pointed to emergency exits. His demonstration drew applause and
admiration from the passengers.
Recto was among
Team Unity candidates who went to Cebu City to campaign and to
attend the end-term conference of the Philippine Councilors’
League. With Recto at the Supercat were Sen. Edgardo Angara, Sen.
Joker Arroyo, former senators Vicente Sotto 3rd and Tessie Aquino
Oreta, Surigao Rep. Prospero Pichay, Zambales Gov. Vicente Magsaysay
and Michael Defensor.
