ILOILO City: Twenty-six election officers in Iloilo
province will be reshuffled. Most of them are already overstaying in
their posts.
The revamp is a “standard
operating procedure,” said Atty. Elizabeth Doronila, Iloilo
Provincial Election Officer and the concurrent Iloilo City Election
Officer.
The reshuffling starts on April
2.
Towns to be affected by the
revamp in the First District are Oton, Tigbauan, Guimbal, Miag-ao
and Tubungan.
In the Second District, the
following municipalities will have new election officers—Pavia,
Santa Barbara, Leganes, Zarraga and New Lucena.
In the Third District, the towns
of Pototan, Cabatuan, Bingawan and Badiangan will have new election
officers, while in the Fourth District, these are the towns of
Barotac Nuevo, Anilao, Dueñas and Dingle.
The component city of Passi in
the Fourth District will also have a new election officer.
In the Fifth District, towns that
will have new poll officers are San Rafael, Ajuy, Sara, Carles,
Balasan and Lemery.
According to Doronila, most of
these election officers have been staying in these towns for over
four years already.
“Overstaying na sila so we need
to transfer them to other areas as standard operating procedure,”
she told Panay News.
The revamp also aims to prevent
election officers from being influenced by politicians who have
already developed familiarity with them.
“An election officer should
stay at an assignment for four years only,” Doronila said.
Capiz and Aklan, too
Twelve election officers from the
12 towns of Capiz will be reassigned to the province of Aklan. In
turn, those in Aklan will be transferred to Capiz.
Atty. Wil Arceño, Capiz
provincial election supervisor, said the reshuffling of election
officers is a normal process to ensure a clean and honest May 14,
2007, elections.
He said six election officers
from the First District and another six in the Second District will
be affected by the order from the Comelec.
They are the election officers of
Panitan, Pontevedra, President Roxas, Maayon, Pilar and Panay all in
the first district; and those from the towns of Dumalag, Dumarao,
Tapaz, Jamindan, Mambusao and Sapian.
A source from the Comelec said
Rutchie Calixterio will remain in Panay as election officer upon the
request of Arceño.
Calixterio was designated
provincial election supervisor after lawyer Nelly Abao-Lee retired
from the service last year.
Calixterio was the election
officer of Roxas City during May 2004 election.
