THE family of a Korean businessman is considering filing criminal
charges against several agents of the National Bureau of
Investigation for allegedly detaining the trader for two weeks
without any charges.
Fifteen men who introduced
themselves as NBI agents arrested Hwang Tae Weon, chief executive
officer of the Hyatt Marina Casino in Manila, using the backdoor
entrance of the hotel on M.H del Pilar about 11 p.m. on March 6.
Weon’s wife, who refused to be
identified, said that NBI operatives, led by a certain Mario Garcia,
arrested her husband on suspicion that he was a fugitive in his
country.
Weon is being detained at Camp
Bagong Diwa in Taguig, but the arresting officers have yet to file a
case against the Korean national.
It was learned that Weon was
issued a special retirees resident visa by the Department of
Immigration when he arrived in the country on November 12, 2003.
Weon, who is engaged in casino
operation, filed an extension visa that allowed him to stay in the
country indefinitely.
His wife said the accusations
made by the NBI agents is not true, because a check made at the
Korean Embassy showed that Weon didn’t have any criminal records
in Korea.
Even the Interpol in Korea also
has no records of Weon’s alleged criminal activities in his
country.
