Filipino expats to join BSCP
National Championship

Middle East-based Filipinos, led by Joven Bustamante, will see action in the second Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines National Championships slated March 26 to 31 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Bustamante was a semifinalist in this year’s World 8-Ball Pool Championship held at the United Arab Emirates. Ronnie Alcano, the reigning World 9-Ball champion, won the tournament.

Elvis Calasang, Mario Tolentino, James Al Ortega and Jundel Mazon, who all teach and play professional pool in Kuwait and Dubai, are also competing in the San Miguel Corp.-sponsored tournament offering P500,000 to the men’s champion. The women’s champion will get P200,000.

Filipinos based in Japan who are coming over are Antonio Lining, Ruel Esquillo, Ramil Gallego, Rudy Morta and Elvis Perez.

Lining reached the semifinals and Esquillo the quarterfinals in the recent Japan Open, while Gallego is a winner of the Asian Pool Tour.

The top four finishers in the BSCP National Championship will earn slots in the World Pool Championship scheduled November 3 to 11 at the Philippine International Convention Center.
