A few unknown individuals and at least three
incumbent councilors were among the early birds who decided to file
their certificates of candidacy before the Quezon City’s local
Commission on Elections office Monday.
Based on the records of the
Comelec District II, three individuals are challenging incumbent
City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. The three are Romeo Acebedo,
jobless, a resident of Project 7; Florian Alvarez, businessman of
Barangay Holy Spirit, and Andy Rosales, social engineer of West
Kamias.
The three mayoralty candidates
are all independent, or running without any party affiliations.
As for the vice-mayor, Herbert
Bautista will be facing Rogelio Olesum of Lakas-NUCD and Roland Jota
of KBL.
Belmonte and Bautista, on the
other hand, are yet to file their certificates of candidacy.
As for the councilors, only two
incumbent officials of the city’s First District filed their COCs,
they are councilors Bernadette Herrera-Dy and Victor Ferrer, while
three new candidates were also listed. Likewise, in the Second
District, two incumbent councilors Voltaire Liban and Winston
Castello are among those who registered early together with three
other aspiring councilors.
The First District of Quezon City
is composed of 37 barangays with 207,325 registered voters, while
the Second District, the city’s largest voting population, has 30
barangays and a total of 520,133 registered voters.
