Malacañang on Monday attempted to display
statesmanship in dealing with questions about the new SWS survey
results showing Vice-President Noli de Castro, Senate President
Manuel Villar, Speaker Jose de Venecia and Supreme Court chief
Justice Reynato Puno enjoying higher public satisfaction ratings
than President Arroyo.
The President’s spokesman and press
secretary, Ignacio Bunye, said President Arroyo is not inclined to
play the “game of polls and survey” and reminded the media that
the President is not a candidate in the May elections.
He said the President is focused on improving
the economy and is working hard to bring benefits to the people.
He added the administration is not after good
ratings in surveys. “It is determined to be above but the
political frays and will concentrate every moment of the day on the
issues that confronts the Filipino people, such as how to alleviate
hunger, creating jobs and checking prices of essential items.
Bunye issued the statement following the Social
Weather Stations released its findings.
Bunye said the government welcomes the negative
perception driven by politics and maintained they have faced these
perceptions “for sometime now and consider them part of the price
to pay for good and straight governance.”
He stressed the President will not be
distracted from her job and will not let surveys dent her will and
determination to finish the work she has started.
