THE Metro Manila Development Authority said on
Wednesday that it would ask the National Telecommunications
Commission to penalize telecommunication firms that fails to fix
their respective cables and telephone wires hanging on the streets.
Chairman Bayani Fernando of the
MMDA made the warning after telephone, cable, Internet and other
utility companies failed to heed the request of the agency to
address the unsightly “spaghetti” wires they have installed.
“We have been talking to these
companies for several years now and they always promise that they
will fix these wires, but until know these wires remain to be
eyesore that is why there is a need to come up with a more drastic
action,” said Fernando, adding that the agency would recommend to
NTC the cancellation of their permit.
At the same time, the Metro
Manila council, in a meeting last week, approved a resolution
imposing a no permit, no installation policy for all
telecommunications companies along the streets of the Metro Manila.
Fernando said all utility
companies that need to install additional wires or cables will not
be allowed unless they have secured a permit from the MMDA aside
from the local governments.
