Imus, Cavite: Former mayor Homer T. Saquilayan was
reinstalled as the new mayor of Imus, Cavite, following the issuance
of temporary restraining order (TRO) by Judge Fernando Felicen of
the Imus Regional Trial Court.
Saquilayan was declared winner by
more than 1,000 votes in the May 2004 election.
Mayor Oscar Jaro filed an
election protest at the Imus RTC, saying he was cheated, the court
proclaimed him the winner in the 2004 election by 584 votes against
Saquilayan. He then assumed office for three years.
Jaro is the administration
candidate of Kampi Party, while Homer T. Saquilayan was the
candidate of the opposition Nationalista Party with Vice-Governor
Jonvic Remulla as titular head in Cavite.
A week ago, on March 21, Jaro was
installed as mayor of Imus, Cavite, by virtue of the court decision
of Felicen. This was the second time Jaro won in the electoral
protest against Saquilayan.
Some supporters of Jaro gathered
at midnight and held vigil Wednesday in front of the municipal
building pending the promulgation of a TRO for Jaro.
Saquilayan has been mayor since
2004 until March 21, 2007, when Jaro was reinstalled and became
mayor for only six days.
At 11 a.m. with the mediation of
the Cavite PNP chief, Col. Fidel Posadas, provincial election
supervisor Juanito V. Ravanzo implemented the order for Saquilayan
to take over as mayor of Imus. While supporters and political allies
of Jaro immediately gave in to avoid encounter with Saquilayan
supporters at 11:30 they left the municipal building after
negotiations.
Jaro told The Times that he
already filed an election protest and will also file his candidacy
as he felt confident about winning in the coming election.
Saquilayan arrived at the
municipal building at 12 noon accompanied by Posadas, Remulla and
Ravanzo.
