Rapu-Rapu fish kill now a political issue

More than the environment, local politicians concern themselves with petty bickering

LEGAZPI CITY: Around 2,000 disgruntled residents of Rapu-Rapu trooped to the town hall Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and demanded that the island municipality be placed under state of calamity due to the effect of the latest fish kill that occurred Thursday last week.

As this developed, Mayor Dick Galicia accused his vice-mayor, Odis de la Cruz as allegedly behind the fish kill and in the process absolved Lafayette Mines of any responsibility. He said the fish kill was 10 kilometers away from the mine site at Barangay Bacolbon, adding there was no indication of a fish kill near there.
