Rapu-Rapu fish kill
now a political issue |
|
More than the environment, local politicians concern
themselves with petty bickering |
|
By Manny T. Ugalde Correspondent
LEGAZPI CITY: Around 2,000
disgruntled residents of Rapu-Rapu trooped to the town hall Tuesday
night and Wednesday morning and demanded that the island
municipality be placed under state of calamity due to the effect of
the latest fish kill that occurred Thursday last week.
As this developed, Mayor Dick
Galicia accused his vice-mayor, Odis de la Cruz as allegedly behind
the fish kill and in the process absolved Lafayette Mines of any
responsibility. He said the fish kill was 10 kilometers away from
the mine site at Barangay Bacolbon, adding there was no indication
of a fish kill near there.
