Moral causes of Mariannet’s suicide

Some of the media (not The Manila Times) had reported that someone in the Davao Catholic parish, to which 12-year-old Mariannet Amper belonged, had doubts about giving her a proper Christian funeral Mass and burial. If the report is true, then the poor child was, in death, again the victim of the lack of mercy of the powerful tasked to minister to her and her family’s needs. 

The priests, if there were any, who hesitated to give Mariannet the dignity due to the Catholic dead, were being guided by the doctrine contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (2280 to the first half of 2282) that “suicide is contrary to love for the living God” who is “the sovereign Master of life” which human being do not own and must preserve for his honor and for the salvation of our souls.
