A rock and a hard place
|
|
THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) appears to be caught between a
rock and a hard place. On the one hand, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs)
and domestic companies, especially exporters, are agonizing over the
rapid appreciation of the peso. OFWs, the country’s modern heroes,
are complaining that the money they send home to their loved ones
isn’t buying as much as it used to. The local currency’s rise
has eroded the purchasing power of the very people who have
contributed to this strength.
