CHARGES have been filed against Kiefer Sutherland who was arrested
recently for drunk driving, a few hours before he was due to be
honored by a Canadian actors’ union. Reports have it that
Sutherland’s car was stopped by Los Angeles police near the
Beverly Hills district past midnight after Sutherland made an
illegal U-turn.
A breath test found the actor to be over the
legal blood-alcohol limit, and he was subsequently arrested on
suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Sutherland was
taken to a police station where he posted a $25,000 bail for his
release.
This arrest came three years after Sutherland,
who headlines the stellar cast for the well-followed TV hit series
24 was charged with the same offense where he pleaded no contest.
The 40-year-old actor, son of veteran character actor Donald
Sutherland, underwent an intensive treatment program for alcohol
abuse that year and reports have it that he was placed on probation,
fined $500 and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service
after pleading no contest, the equivalent of a guilty plea in
California, to DUI.
Sutherland was on his way to accept an award to
be given by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio
Artists (ACTRA) at the residence of Canada’s Consul General in Los
Angeles. The Emmy winning actor will continue to play his role as
terrorist fighter Jack Bauer on Fox network’s award-winning 24.
