THE Philippines will send a 758-member
contingent in the 24th Southeast Asian Games slated December 6-16 in
Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
RP SEAG Task Force chairman Julian Camacho said
the delegation, composed of 565 athletes, 178 coaches and 15
technical officials, and will be submitted to the Philippine Olympic
Committee Executive Board for approval this week.
“We have come up with the total number of
athletes after scrutinizing their records. These athletes are
capable of winning medals in the Thailand Games,” said Camacho.
“We will submit our recommendation to the POC
Executive Board. Hindi na ito madadagdagan pero pwede pang mabawasan
in case na may mga withdrawal of entries,” he added.
Softball has the biggest number of athletes with
34 followed by athletics (32), traditional boat race (28),
basketball (24), fencing (24), baseball (22), football (20), cycling
(19), shooting (17), boxing (17), tae kwon do (16), sailing (16),
sepak takraw (15), karatedo (15), pencak silat (14), judo (14),
futsal (14), muay (13), archery (13), water polo (13), dance sports
(12), bowling (12), lawn bowls (12), rowing (11), rugby (11), wushu
(11), equestrian (11), wrestling (9), beach volleyball (8), tennis
(8), petanque (8), diving (7), billards and snooker (7), golf (7),
weightlifting (5), gymnastics (4), badminton (4), caneo-kayak (3),
squash (2) and body building (2).
The Thailand Southeast Asian Games Organizing
Committee set the deadline of entries by name on October 8.
