LETTER

Justice Ong is busy at work

As counsel for Justice Gregory Ong, let me say that it is not true that he is clinging to his position. He has heeded the order of the Supreme Court to clarify issues on his citizenship. He has gone to the Regional Trial Court of San Juan, Branch 264, in Pasig, where his brother, Walter, handles his case.

I continue to assist the Ongs.

What the Supreme Court said was that Justice Ong should complete “all necessary steps, through the appropriate adversarial proceedings in court, to show that he is a natural-born Filipino citizen and correct the records of his birth and citizenship.” Meantime, its spokesman said he could continue to work in the Sandiganbayan, where his work ethic is legend. He would not be derelict in his duty.

The process in the Pasig RTC began in August 2007. It is now October. The proceedings are about to end. Kilosbayan and Bantay Katarungan entered their appearance. However, not a single party has opposed our petition as there is no basis to do so. If anybody believes there is a basis to oppose our petition, let him be heard now or everyone should forever hold his peace, and join the Bureau of Immigration, Office of the Solicitor General and the Department of Justice which are all in support of our theory.

Justice Ong is an apo sa talampakan of “indios del Barrio Santiago, Malolos, Bulacan.”
