THE first batch of national triathletes and duathletes leave for
Thailand Wednesday to undergo a two-month training and series of
tuneup games as part of their build-up for the 24th Southeast Asian
Games in Thailand this December.
The Triathlon Association of the Philippines
will send former Asian duathlon champion Ryan Mendoza, 2005 SEA
Games silver medalist Sandra Araullo and Annaliza Dysangco to the
Phang-nga Training Center under the supervision of Australian
mentors.
“We already talked to some Australian
triathletes based in Thailand to allow our athletes train with them
for two months. This international training will boost our chances
in the SEA Games,” said triathlon assistant coach Melvin Fausto.
The second batch composed of 2005 Manila SEAG
bronze medalist Arland Macasieb, George Vilog, Macasieb, Augusto
Benedicto, Popo Nagtalon and Mimi Lucas will leave on October 15.
Fausto said the training camp will help the
Filipinos acclimatize.
