RP bowlers gear up for Asian Indoor tilt

By Llanesca T. Panti, Reporter

REIGNING World masters champion Biboy Rivera will banner the RP bowling team which will compete in the 2nd Asian Indoor Championship slated October 26 to November 3 in Macau, China.

Joining Rivera in the team are defending SEAG masters champion Markwin Tee and doubles champion Jonee Gatchalian, and newcomer Raul Miranda.

Making up the women’s team are SEAG team of five silver medalist Jojo Canare and masters titlist Lisa Clutario, and rookies Apple Posadas and Holly Josef. Lisa del Rosario cannot join the team as she is training for the World Cup next month.

Philippine Bowling Congress secretary-general Bong Coo said experience will be the Filipinos’ lethal weapon in the Asian Indoor Games. The nationals joined the Asian Championships last August in Jakarta, Indonesia and the World Championships last month.

“Being in this tournament is very important because international exposure helps the players develop not only their physical but moreover their mental toughness down the stretch,” said Coo. “Plus they can asses their opponents’ capabilities this early.”

Coo added that the RP bowlers will not use the Asian Indoor tilt as a redemption for their fruitless campaign in Doha because they are treating every tournament as a brand new chance to do their best.

“We don’t have to pressure ourselves to get back because every tournament is a learning experience,” Coo said. “We just make the most out of that experience by doing something about our shortcomings and pushing ourselves to the limits to win for the country.”
