A court in Los Angeles dismissed
the drug charges filed against the actress Nora Aunor following her
completion of a six-month drug rehabilitation program.
According to the report, the
multiawarded actress was confined in a rehabilitation center where
she completed the requirements of the court-ordered drug diversion
program. Aunor, Nora Cabaltera Villamayor in real life, tested
negative for drugs during the six-month program.
With the case’s dismissal,
Aunor was spared from being imprisoned, and her case will stricken
off her criminal record. However, the Washington-based Manila Mail
said Aunor was required to pay a $250 fine.
Television station QTV was able
to interview the actress who told them that she was delighted with
the court ruling.
Aunor was arrested on March 30,
2005, at the Los Angeles International Airport for alleged
possession of eight grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride (commonly
known as shabu) and a glass pipe, which were found in her hand-carry
bag.
After Aunor entered a guilty plea
in March 2006, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge issued a Deferred
Entry of Judgment, which delayed the sentencing for 18 months and
placed her under a rehabilitation program.
Reports said Aunor will most
likely to return to the Philippines by November or December. The
report said a local director, who claimed to be a fan of the
actress, has expressed interest in casting Aunor in an independent
film.
