Officials: Myanmar holding 1,000 people at Yangon campus

BANGKOK: At least 1,000 people picked up when security forces in Myanmar cracked down on mass protests have been detained at a campus in Yangon, UN and regime officials told AFP Tuesday, confirming earlier reports from two human rights group.

A senior UN official said he was concerned at reports that the detainees, including some 500 monks who have reportedly stopped eating, were being moved to another location, heigh­tening fears for their well being.
