ARE you getting tired of the ZTE-NBN investigation, the Jpepa
squabble, the unending “Hello, Garci” probe, the debate on the
cyber-education program, new attempts to impeach President Arroyo
and the born-again bribery charges in the termite-bitten House of
Representatives?
These matters are invested with the “national
interest,” according to the players, and that “national
security” is at stake. These are grand phrases but we bet none
among the self-advertised statesmen in the Congress or the Executive
can define what the national interest is. Self-interest is more like
it.
