The latest trends to hit the Philippines were
showcased at the recent Samsung Metrowear fashion show. Ten of the
most well-known retailers showcased their couture at the Rockwell
Tent.
Folded and Hung featured a collection designed
by Ivarluski Aseron, which presented a simple yet edgy
eighties’-inspired look. Apple & Eve was all about layering,
jackets and sweaters worn over shirts, and skirts worn above tights.
Pink Soda brought back the eighties’ look with a modern twist,
like the staple little black dress partnered with bright-colored
stockings.
Details went back to basics with black and white
fashion, as well as partnering baby doll dresses with the season’s
trend, leggings. Graxie’s collection, with its polo dresses,
ruffle details and empire waistbands, could perfectly be described
as modern retro. Kaiser’s men’s line also presented a retro look
with bright tops and hooded blazers to name a few. Ilaya couture’s
theme was the classic yet very fashion-forward Filipiniana meets
Kimono, Maria Clara-like blouses, oversized puff sleeves and collars
were given a mod touch when partnered with a pair of shorts.
K & Company, on the other hand, presented an
Audrey Hepburn-inspired collection of earth-toned dresses with
ruffles on the hem and collar, as well as coats inspired by
old-fashioned England. Maud’s collection had the restrained glam
theme going for it, showcasing forties’ tailoring with vest layers
and waist band finishing. Last, Religioso sported a glamorous look
that gives an edgy twist to ordinary casual wear to stylish and
uniquely structured minidresses.
Admiring the collections that evening were
Daphne Osena-Paez, Fortune Ledesma, Ana Bitong, Chris Albert,
Sigalit Djemal and Audrey Tan-Zubiri. Young and ultra chic Mariel
Rodriguez, Carla Humphries, Helena Belmonte, Shu Uemura’s Tessa
Dragon, and Pinoy Big Brother housemate Say Alonzo were on the
lookout for their next must-haves. The country’s hottest designers
also graced the event: JC Buendia, Vittorio Barba, Tonichi Nocom,
Amina Aranza-Alunan, and accessory designer Ciara
Marasigan-Serumgard, to name a few.
It was a wonderful event in which today’s
hottest retailers took center stage to highlight local creativity
and innovations in fashion. The industry has obviously set its
sights on bigger and brighter things, and it is opportunities like
Samsung Metrowear that make sure their ideas can be shared to all.
