Military dares ‘Ka Roger’ to show up

By Anthony Vargas Reporter

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday dared the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) spokesman, Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal, to surface and belie rumors that he is dead.

The AFP issued this challenge after the CPP information bureau released a statement on its website early Wednesday saying Rosal is still very much alive.

“The only proof to say that he [Rosal] is alive is to show himself,” the AFP Public Information chief, Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro, said in a media briefing in Camp Aguinaldo.

The AFP official said that the communist spokesman should grant media interviews to dispel rumors that he is dead, instead of simply issuing statements to the trimedia.

“To put substance to their [CPP] statement, to prove that he [Rosal] is alive, he should show up. If he is alive, no one would exert effort to text him,” Bacarro said.

The rebel spokesman said in a statement that he is very much alive, and that the purported rumors of his demise were just part of the military’s propaganda campaign.

“We have earlier reports that he indeed fell ill, and based on these reports and those that came out, he is dead, we are using these reports to really verify if he is still alive or dead,” Bacarro said.

The AFP official added the military did not presume the communist spokesman to be dead and that it is only trying to verify Rosal’s true condition.
