LEGAZPI CITY: As an urgent response to the issue of
global warming, the provincial government of Albay is set to launch
a pioneering local climate change adaptation in Asia Pacific.
Manuel Rangasa, conference
director of the National Conference on Climate Change Adaptation (NCCCA)
set on October 22 to 24, said the provincial government is
determined to take an immediate action to address the impact
resulting from the warming which is unavoidable.
“Action on climate change is a
top priority of Governor Joey Salceda,” Rangasa said.
He noted that Albay province is
the first local government in the Philippines and in Asia-Pacific to
initiate an action on global warming.
“We are expecting at least 700
participants from government, local and international nongovernment
organizations, academe, business sector and foreign dignitaries,”
according to Rangasa.
He added that the Albay
declaration on climate change adaptation would be presented to
President Gloria Arroyo after her keynote address.
The declaration will be included
in the Philippine paper for the Bali Conference in December this
year.
Rangasa further stated that NCCCA
would also serve as a venue for the invited members of Philippine
Congress and local legislators to come up with policy implications
of climate change.
“This initiative is not only
for the province of Albay nor for the entire country because our
action is for all mankind,” he concluded.
