Barangay captain seeks
reelection in detention

DAVAO CITY: A barangay captain here who was arrested on accusation of parricide is seeking another term in the October 29 barangay elections, with a relative filing his certificate of candidacy.

Barangay captain Renie Lim of Upper Tamugan in Marilog District is currently detained for allegedly shooting dead his wife on February 2 in Los Amigos, Baguio District while they were on their way home to Tamugan.

Lim surrendered to acting Judge Pelagio Paguican of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 8 here about 11 a.m. on July 13 following the advice of his legal counsel, lawyer Victorio Advincula. Lim has pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him.

Lim was also charged with violation of the gun ban under the Omnibus Election Code and obstruction of justice, and these cases have yet to be resolved at the City Prosecutor’s Office.

Lim’s COC was filed on October 10 by one Esperanza M. Lim, a relative, who was granted a special power of attorney to file the document in his stead.

A Commission on Elections official here said Lim could still run in the coming barangay elections.

“He can still run as there is still no final conviction on his case,” Davao City Third District election officer Lacsasa Casar said.
