HUNTER DOUGLAS dealers from around the world recently converged for
the 2007 International Alliance Conference in Denver Colorado and
got the opportunity to listen to former United States Secretary of
State Colin Powell.
“Being a Hunter Douglas dealer does not only
give one the opportunity to represent the world’s leading name in
window fashions; it also provides the chance participate in
international conventions and listen to the world’s most respected
personalities,” said Hunter Douglas president Gigi M. Lapira.
Powell, who was the event’s keynote speaker,
spoke about “Leadership and Inspiration.”
“His talk was very enlightening. He talked
about taking responsibility and remaining focused in times of
challenges,” Lapira said.
The other speakers during the conference
included Hunter Douglas Inc. chief executive officer Marv Hopkins,
technology forecaster and business strategist Daniel Burrus,
marketing expert Michelle Lamb, and retail management guru George
Whalin. Hunter Douglas Window Fashion global head Ralph Sonnenberg
likewise attended the event.
Hopkins was the first president of Hunter
Douglas’ Window Fashions Division in 1986. As CEO as well as
president and chief operating officer of Hunter Douglas, he is
responsible for the company’s 40 divisions and more than 9,000
employees throughout North America.
Burrus is the CEO of Burrus Research, a research
and consulting firm that monitors global advancements in science and
technology-driven trends and how they create enormous untapped
opportunities for companies. He is the author of six books,
including the highly acclaimed Technotrends, and has delivered
over 2,200 keynote speeches to corporations, associations, and
professional organizations worldwide.
Lamb is the founder and chairman of Marketing
Directions, which specializes in product assortment support.
Its clients have included leading corporations 3M, Target Stores,
Home Depot, and Gerber Baby Products, among others.
Whalin is the founder of Retail Management
Consultants, which provides business-building services to retail
companies and industry suppliers. He is the author of Retail
Success! Increase Sales, Maximize Profits, and Wow Your Customers in
the Most Competitive Market Place in History, which continues to be
supplemental reading in several university retailing courses.
With the theme “Together, A New
Opportunity,” this year’s IAC gathered 4,000 delegates from
around the world.
Aside from the keynote speeches, they also got
the chance to preview the latest products and technologies in window
fashions.
“Consumer preferences are always changing and
attending conferences such as the IAC is one way where we can update
ourselves the latest products that we can offer our clients,”
Lapira said.
