THE controversy is still brewing
hot, perhaps like the drink the main protagonists were reportedly
sipping while exchanging whispers in the now overblown Hotel Sofitel
incident as alleged by showbiz power icon Lolit Solis. Tirades have
been fired, interviews conducted, conclusions formulated and
reactions have been aplenty.
The best thing to do now is to
lay the matter to rest because in the end, no one will truly benefit
from this particular page in the controversy-laden book of matinee
idols Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby, whose true sexual orientation
have been questioned time and again.
In fairness to Piolo, it was a
good move on his part to remain quiet throughout this new ordeal.
Perhaps he is tired of defending himself against all these rumors
and nasty talks, because he has had these for years—from the time
he was linked to Eric Quizon until his alleged romantic liaison with
Yul Servo. Even if his mother studio has convinced him to come out
in the open and admit that he has a son, it seems like that’s not
enough to convince his detractors. So it was really wise for Piolo
to use silence as a weapon because it’s just a waste of time and
energy to be always be on the defensive side.
On the other hand, Sam Milby has
already threatened on national television that he will bring this
matter to court in the event that there is no retraction and apology
from Lolit, who was served a demand letter last weekend by the
lawyers of Sam. Whether he will sue or not, we have to wait and see
when he comes back from a series of shows in Canada, with, who else
but Piolo Pascual! For Sam, there is no turning back this time –
he has to do what he has to do.
Many reckon that Sam didn’t
have to react at all, but he already did and what’s done is done.
Lolit, with all her years of experience in showbiz, has clout,
connection and commanding power (just ask anyone from GMA 7), and is
deemed a difficult foe. So Sam, if ever he will push through with
this battle, faces an industry Goliath.
Perhaps just coincidence, or
maybe a well-planned strategy slowly unraveling, but Sam has just
released his new CD titled A Little Too Perfect. Are these
controversies part and parcel of being almost perfect, or is it a
curse for having the looks, the popularity, and the lifestyle that
is so envied by many?
Sam Milby says that he bared his
heart and soul in the making of this album. “This is a labor of
love. This CD is special, every song has a part of me.”
A couple of original tracks were
composed by Sam himself, but one of the more beautiful songs was
written by Jim Brickman, who incidentally is busy finalizing his
holiday concert schedule in the United States.
There’s something about Sam in
the photo that accompanies this piece. It tells so much of Sam’s
current predicament. The road to showbiz success is never smooth,
almost always laden with rocks and stones and dirt that people
constantly throw at a rising star. His eyes look forlorn, sad and
puzzled. The young singer, all by himself in a barren road, holds
his guitar, his only ally in these troubled times. Perhaps music
soothes his soul. Perhaps the songs he sings offer him healing,
peace, acceptance and understanding. We could only guess at this
point because only Sam knows what he feels, what is true, who he is.
And we all have no right to judge.
