THE Philippine sepak takraw team
eyes a better finish in the coming Southeast Asian Games in
Thailand.
Despite having a single
international exposure, the team is optimistic of improving on its
one silver (women’s team hoop) and one bronze (men’s team hoop)
two years ago in Manila.
The team is currently in Macau
for the Asian Indoor Games as part of its tuneup for the SEAG.
“We will definitely improve on
our finish,” Philippine Amateur Sepak Takraw Association president
Mario Tanchangco said. “We are making up for a limited foreign
exposure by going double on our practices.
Team captain Hector Mamarion,
Joel Carbonilla, Motodio Suico and Harrison Castañares will banner
the men’s team while leading the women campaigners are Irene Apdon,
Deseree Autor and Sarah Jane Catain.
Also in the Thailand-bound team
are rookies Junmar Aleta, Larry Dalope and Jessel Yaun.
“We are ready for a
highly-competitive fight,” said Carbonilla, who has been with the
team since 2001. “We never take our practice sessions lightly and
we are even surpassing the output of 2005 SEAG bronze medal
finishers. We hardly take a rest.”
“We are reaching the 600 point
mark, compared to 2005 when we are scoring at around 500,”
Carbonilla added.
