Drought, US housing woes to limit expansion

RP economy to slow in third quarter–NEDA

THE United States’ housing-led credit woes and a prolonged drought that hit hard the Northern Philippines will slow down domestic economic growth in the third quarter, a senior official of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said.

In a briefing, Dennis M. Arroyo, NEDA planning and policy chief, told reporters an economic slowdown is in the offing in the third quarter of the year. Growth however will pick up in the fourth quarter as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) resume their remittances in time for the Christmas holidays, he said.
