WITH the Philippines now one of
its accredited testing sites, the professional review organization
College Network is bringing to the Filipino nurses a guaranteed way
to pass the National College Licensure Examination (NCLEX). This is
the equivalent of a comprehensive board examination in the United
States.
Majority of Filipino nurses go to
the United States to practice their profession. This is the main
reason why the College Network decided to bring its NCLEX-Registered
Nurse (RN) program in the Philippines. With a similar lifestyle
between Filipinos and the Americans, their English-proficiency and
their hospitability, Filipinos are the most-sought-after nurses in
the US.
The Rx for NCLEX Success is a
self-directed online program developed with the US-based National
League for Nursing. It includes eight comprehensive learning modules
that address the content outlined by the NCLEX-RN test plan.
The program also contains about
4,000 NCLEX exam-style practice questions. Nursing educators
themselves wrote the problems in the Question Review Bank.
One unique feature of this
College Network program is that users receive immediate feedback for
questions they answer wrongly. Robert Gallup, vice- president for
Marketing of the College Network, said this feature develops the
user’s critical thinking which will be very significant in their
decision-making.
“It is designed to give the
student the confidence in predicting whether they’re going to pass
the NCLEX . . . We’re giving them the tool to help them make that
decision,” Robert Gallup, vice-president for Marketing of the
College Network, said.
Once he or she registered, the
user has 120 days to access the program. With the Diagnostic
Readiness Test (DRT), the student will be able to pinpoint his
strengths and weakness. He will get a self-assessment of how ready
he is to take the NCLEX.
Gallup said that according to
their study, if a user gets an 85 percent in the DRT, it is most
likely that he will pass the NCLEX.
“They have gone though practice
simulations. They have gone through the rationales… they have gone
back to the content, they have spoken with the NCLEX reviewer . . .
and now they can sit down and take the actual NCLEX exam,” said
Gallup.
Glenn Cason, vice-president and
national sales director of the College Network, said the major
factor for passing the NCLEX is quality education. The program
won’t be able to help students who had poor education pass the
NCLEX.
“If you have a weak curriculum
and program, no matter how well you prepare, you’re not going to
do well,” Cason said.
