SHE is not just local music’s first digital
artist. Acel Bisa is the singer-songwriter who stunned the music
world with her hit songs “Turete” and “Sulat.” Because of
the wonderful feedback from these two cuts, the young singer has
just wrapped up production work for Silver Lining, her
much-anticipated solo debut released under Star Records.
Turning 28 this month, Acel talks about the
changes in her musical career and how going solo and turning digital
is leading her to new and exciting paths.
“My songs in this album are more relaxed and
toned down. I made more inputs in this album so much so that the
songs reflect a part of me. For one, I composed all of the songs, so
the listeners will be able to get to know more of my style as a
songwriter and my core as a musical artist.”
After a successful 5-year stint with the popular
band Moonstar 88 band, Acel decided to take flight on her own with
her growing unreleased collection of songs and signed up as a solo
artist with Cornerstone Management in 2007. Asked about her decision
to go solo, Acel admitted about some hesitations but in the end, it
was her passion for music and songwriting that eventually won her
over.
“When I left my band, I really didn’t know
when I’d ever come back to the music scene. But I kept on writing
new songs. Songwriting is a passion and something that is part of my
being. Over the course of time, my friend who owns a recording
studio encouraged me to go ahead and start with the recording of my
compositions.”
Acel’s independent spirit and unique
personality shone through with every song on her debut album,
reflecting her more level of maturity in music along with her range
of influences. Acel’s influences include The Sundays, Cardigans,
Smashing Pumpkins, Shelley Ann Orphan, Eddie Brickell, Tori Amos and
Big Runga. Lately, she has been listening to Bethany Dillon, Nicole
Nordeman, Switchfoot and Keane.
Acel picks her favorite songs in the album:
“It’s hard to choose between the songs “Satisfy” and
“Tomorrow,” but if I’m allowed to be a little sentimental,
I’ll pick the Tagalog cuts “ Nakalimutan mo na Ba?” and “Sa
Ngalan ng Pag-ibig” as my top choices. Also, since Silver Lining
is a digital release, Acel is happy to share that fans can listen to
her new songs and easily purchase the album through her website www.acelbisa.com.
