QUEZON, Nueva Ecija: A Nueva
Ecija congressman has expressed apprehension that deposed president
Joseph Estrada is being made a sacrificial lamb to underscore the
government’s resolve against corruption.
First District Rep. Eduardo
Nonato Joson said that recent headlines putting the country at the
top among countries with the worst corruption records could result
in Estrada being jailed.
He, however, warned that such a
move poses danger to the nation’s stability.
Another scenario Joson is
apprehensive of is for Estrada to be found guilty of lower offense
of forgery. “That way”, he said, the former chief executive can
readily be released considering he has been in detention for six
years already.
Meanwhile, Central Luzon police
director, Chief Supt. Errol Pan, warned demonstrators not to carry
deadly or bladed weapons for they will be arrested.
He said the regional police
forces, besides providing augmentation forces in Metro Manila, would
conduct checkpoints in strategic places, along with other agencies
such as the Traffic Management Group.
