Taiwan firm expands operation in Subic Bay

Taiwanese firm Tong Lung Philippines will expand and beef up its manufacturing operations at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the company announced Tuesday.

Tony Ho, company director, said Tong Lung will invest P250 million in the new factory it will build near its first manufacturing facility at the Subic Bay Industrial Park.

Tong Lung produces and designs metal products such as doorknobs, locks, the expansion has promised to generate 600 new jobs. The company employs some 400 workers.

SBMA Administrator Armand Arreza said the expansion project, the second to be announced by a Subic locator this month, affirms Subic’s viability as an investment destination.

Tong Lung exports its products to various markets in Asia, America, Europe and Africa.

Through its main factory in Taiwan and the Subic offshore unit, the firm is capable of producing 1.8 million locksets a month through the computer-aided design and automated precision machinery.

Ho said Tong Lung has been refocusing its mass production program to higher-end products, which require strong and flexible capabilities in research and development.
